The Bear Gonten was built in 1602, according to dendrochronological research, and is the oldest Building in Gonten in Appenzell.
Since spring 2015, after extensive renovation, the three-star Suprior Boutique Hotel Bären has been shining in fresh splendour.

In 2020, the traditional house was extended by a further 12 junior suites and rooms, a spa and new meeting rooms. Now, 25 individual and loving Furnished rooms, junior suites and family residences in Appenzell chic with modern design elements as well as two restaurants with seminar rooms facing the hotel.
The kitchen team skillfully processes regional and healthy ingredients into dishes that always delight its guests. High-quality products, which are processed into refined dishes, are gladly put on the plates. Coordinated, light menus are served on special occasions.
The Bären Gonten is both a meeting place for the locals as well as a cosy retreat for private guests and smaller groups or seminars.
